Weekly Poll - Bone Disease At Diagnosis

by Beacon Staff on Wed Nov 28, 2012 4:34 pm

This week’s poll is about myeloma bone disease, one of the common symptoms present when a person is diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

A few clarifications:

This poll is for anyone who has been diagnosed with symptomatic multiple myeloma and who had bone involvement / bone disease at the time of their myeloma diagnosis.

If you are a caregiver or family member of a myeloma patient, feel free to answer on their behalf.

As always, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below. They can be very useful to other readers. In particular, if you selected 'Other,' please describe what other type of bone involvement you had at the time of your diagnosis.

My original problem started with EXTREME lower back pain went to the floor and was unable to get up-I went to emergency where I was given pain meds and sent home returned within a couple days with pain in my back, ribs & hips - my primary care doctor was the person who first diagnosed me with multiple myeloma - it was finally determined that 3 of my lower vert. were basically shattered and my entire spine was effected ,I was treated with Thalid & dex for about 10 months - then taken off treatment when I showed very good responce to the Thalid & Dex. - reciently I was measured for height and it was found that I am now 5' 7"' tall - after checking my DD 214 (Navy discharge papers) I was listed as 5' 11" tall at the time of my discharge , I am aware that people usually shorten as they grow older but 4" seems a little excessive ! I was diagnosed in January of 2011. I sneezed one day and my ribs began hurting. But I was diagnosed until months later when my creatitine rose to 3.0. I didn't even know my ribs were fractured untill I was admiited to the hospital for the multiple myeloma diagnosis. Then the nightmare began.
