This week's question is for all our readers who currently have, or were previously diagnosed with, smoldering multiple myeloma.
The question is: How old were you when you were diagnosed with smoldering myeloma?
A few clarifications:
First, this question is only for readers who either (a) currently have smoldering multiple myeloma, or (b) were diagnosed with smoldering multiple myeloma before their disease progressed to active multiple myeloma.
Second, if you are a caregiver or family member of someone who falls into either category (a) or (b) above, feel free to answer on their behalf
Third, we are interested in how old you were at that point in time when you received the definitive diagnosis that you have smoldering myeloma.
As always, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below. They can be very useful and interesting to other readers.

Re: Weekly Poll - Age At Diagnosis For Smoldering Myeloma
I was officially diagnosed as smoldering multiple myeloma in April, 2011, 6 weeks before my 71st birthday. Doctor had told me for a couple of years that I was anemic and didn't seem concerned until I had severe shortness of breath due to exertion of walking up a ramp to board a WA ferry. Finally had a SPEP test 2/8/2011 and sent to an Oncologist on 2/25/011. This was 24 hours before I was to leave for a 5 week holiday. Since I was not giving up my vacation and my HgB was down to 8.5, received 2 units of blood and left. When I returned in April I endured 2 BMB's (the first one was bungled and misdiagnosed) and plasma cells at 9 (the second Oncologist performed the BMB where the radiologist said there was a lot of cells). Since my HgB is still holding (almost a year now) at HgB 10.4, my m-spike holding at 1.4, and have no bone pain or infections, it's a wait and see every month with blood tests. Since I have continually been "stable" since diagnosed, will be changing to every 2/3 months for the blood tests. Am leaving WA again but this time for 9 weeks as I plan to do what I want until hell freezes over. multiple myeloma can wait as I have to many things I want to do while I still can...........Wish me luck.............................

Re: Weekly Poll - Age At Diagnosis For Smoldering Myeloma
Looks like the 40 somethings win this poll, Its Unfortunate that anyone has to win this poll actually. What is going on in our environment that is causing the age to be younger and younger?

Great question Art.
I think another variable in terms of the survey age dominance is that 40plus age group is far more likely to use the internet and forums such as this vs those who would be 60 plus.
