I suddenly have been retaining water the past couple months. Is this from the Revlimid, which I've been taking as maintenance therapy (15 mg) for two years? I never had that problem all my life. I am not obese or overweight etc.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I am on a mild diuretic on an as need basis only for now.

Re: Retaining water while on Revlimid maintenance
I have been on Revlimid since my stem call transplant in September 2011. Started at 15 mg, now on 10 mg. Never had water retention but have had bad neuropathy in my feet. Before my transplant when taking 25 mg of Revlimid with dexamethasone, I had significant swelling of my legs, but nothing since then.

Re: Retaining water while on Revlimid maintenance
I've been taking Revlimid and dex for 20 months and started having water retention in my legs about 4 months ago. It now has gotten to the point that my feet and ankles are almost always swollen. I've been wearing compression stockings with 15-20 mmHg pressure on a daily basis.
My oncologist is having me have an echocardiogram to see if there are any problems with my heart. If it comes out ok he is going to add a diuretic to my regimen. I do take HCTZ with my blood pressure pill, but that isn't strong enough for the swelling that I am experiencing.

Re: Retaining water while on Revlimid maintenance
Fluid retention related to Revlimid can occur but is unusual. The fact that you've taken Revlimid for two years and only recently developed fluid retention also suggests that Revlimid may not be the culprit, although it's certainly possible for new side effects to develop in association with a drug you've taken for a significant period of time.
Other factors should be considered in assessing this condition, including things such as dietary changes, new medications, thyroid function, kidney function, and cardiovascular function. It's important to understand the cause as much as possible when determining the appropriate response to this kind of symptom.

Re: Retaining water while on Revlimid maintenance
I'm on 10 mg Revlimid..(+81 Gn Aspirin) and have been for 18 Months. Last M spike was 0.1 g/dl and SEP was excellent. Myeloma controlled.
I have been a bit fluid filled, especially since Induction and the Velcade/Dex regimen.
In the past 4 months--it has become excessive and I am now on a daily diuretic. Cardiac is good. Stress test was good, as part of stem cell workup a year ago. BP, HR, Pulse, all good. Cholesterol--Low. Kidney function is good, Sodium, electrolytes, creatinine, etc are all very good--except Potassium--a little low. Platelets good. MPV is a little low. Ratios are all WNL.
Had STD, VD, MPV, Clap, HIV, tests as Standard workup for Stem cell.--no diseases. No alcohol or drugs (street) taken. Non-smoker.
( Serial labs since June 2012)
About all I can posit---is My Loop of Henle is out of whack--conserving extra sodium, and conversely flushing Potassium. I take a 99 mg OTC Potassium supp 2x /week, along with the Diuretic (Furosemide). Diet is reguar with hydration, fruits and veggies--to counteract severe Constipation ( Courtesy of Velcade--which also gave me w/ Grade II PN below the knees-bilaterally).
Doing well in managing constipation. I don't take any OTC's or meds for the constipation. I don't need compression socks if furosemide taken.
No exercise induced SOB, racing or pounding pulse, HR, etc, either.
It seems that the low dose Furosimide "regulates" Loop of Henle into better balance and fluid mgt.
Could PN (Velcade/ Dex) effect the kidneys in this fashion ??
I did have a respiratory infection in Feb 2014--for which burst dose Prolosone was rX'd --along with antibiotics. Fluid retention really ticked up, during that treatment. I began daily diuretic in March.
We used to joke how "Fluid Mgt" was a fine art, in my beer drinking college days....but this is seemingly directly related to meds taken since Dx in May 2012....and specifically Steroids/ PN/ Velcade.
I also do have short periods where I Sweat excessively---akin to the proverbial "wh*re in church".
If it is not the meds causing these symptoms--it has to be part of an atypical presentation of PN--aggravated by Revlimid/ steroids.
