Scared and hopeful. I have just completed my 6th day of radiation for a lesion on my clavical bone in my shoulder. Some swelling near the site. I hope that this is normal, will ask about it next session Monday.
I am starting chemo on December 4, by pill. 11 pills at once! Really scares me, along with a steroid and a shot. Everyone at the doctor's office tells me that everyone reacts differently. I will get 4 months of treatment and then a stem cell transplant.
I previously had 20 years of smoldering myeloma and it just activated. I'm a 73 year-old-woman in pretty fair shape with no other physical ailments.
Can anyone relate? Please respond if you can.

Re: Was smoldering, now starting treatment
Hi Pat,
20 years smoldering and then you became symptomatic! Ugh. One would think that the odds would be on your side for getting by in life without developing multiple myeloma. The good news is that it is far better to have multiple myeloma now than it was 20 years ago. It's a whole new ballgame when it comes to the treatments that are offered to multiple myeloma patients
Which Georgetown are you in? Where are you being treated? Do you know which specific drugs you are going to be on (it kind of sounds like Cytoxan + Velcade + Dex or Revlimid + Velcade + dex)?
