Hello to all, I am a 63 yr old father of three wonderful young ladies, my wife and I were looking forward to retirement, when this monster came out, not only forced me to take an early retirement, but kicked the daylights out of someone that has never been one to be sick ever !!
My strength has disappeared, I can barely climb a set of stairs, walk with a cane most of the time, must lift my legs to get them in or out of a car.I have trouble lifting my arms above my head, and feel weak and useless most of the time. WHAT A WAY TO LIVE,,.
I am in Vancouver at the present time, 400 Kim's from our home, staying with friends for almost a month now.I was supposed to harvest on Aug. 7 and transplant Aug. 23.
Poor harvest ,has resulted in many more tests, including another marrow biopsy, set for tomorrow.
Results will set stage for new plan I am hoping, it seems I am just spinning my wheels and not getting anywhere, a month here and no I idea as to what is next.. Very down in the dumps right now, need a glimmer at end of tunnel to perk me up.

Hi Lee, Sorry to hear of your troubles with multiple myeloma. hOPE that stuff starts to turn around for you soon and you can return home again too!
You don't tell us what your treatment has been so far, in order to take you up to the point of a stem cell harvest. Did you take Velcade with dex, or some other induction chemotherapy regimen? How did that go?
I know it is difficult to comprehend a cancer dx, but at least with myeloma there is good hope of surviving many years with it, either in complete remission or not.
Hope that you are comfortable at B.C. Cancer Care! I have heard that the staff are very nice there, actually. I live in Alberta and it's the same here too. Best wishes to you! Also, there is a support group for myeloma patients in Vancouver.
