I've read that green tea and vitamin C can lower the effectiveness of Velcade. Does vitamin C also lower the effectiveness of Ninlaro (ixazomib), the proteasome inhibitor that is similar to Velcade?
I take Ninlaro in the middle of the night when I get up to use the bathroom. About 5 hours later, I take 500 mg Ester C with breakfast. I'm wondering if this is too soon to take vitamin C. Does it lower the effectiveness of the Ninlaro? (Ester C seems to be the one vitamin that really does help ward off upper respiratory infections for me, so I don't want to give it up.)

Re: Vitamin C and Ninlaro (ixazomib)
Hi Melpen
I started Kyprolis (carfilzomib) during my induction treatment and now use it for my maintenance therapy. This drug is also a member of the proteasome inhibitor class. It was suggested to me not to take any vitamin C supplements or drink green tea because it is in the same class as Velcade.
I am not sure if this is based on studies or if it was just suggested by my local oncologist due to the fact it does fall within the same class of drug as Velcade. I am considering asking my myeloma specialist to get her thoughts.
Best wishes
Rhonda

Re: Vitamin C and Ninlaro (ixazomib)
Did anyone get any more information about vitamin C and Ninlaro (ixazomib)?
I am interested because I believe I can benefit from vitamin C due to some central sensitization pain (complex regional pain syndrome / reflex sympathetic dystrophy).

Don't know about Ninlaro, but I took 500 mg of vitamin C everyday while taking Velcade and had great success with it (with peripheral neuropathy side effects).
