My mother's oncologist mentioned today that he wanted to begin Vidaza treatment after mom's blood counts come up. I have never heard of this. I have searched my regular myeloma sites and no one mentions it as a treatment. Does anyone here know of this drug?
Thanks

Re: Vidaza as myeloma treatment?
Hello Regina,
As far as I know, Vidaza (aka azacitidine) is typically prescribed as a treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes, or "MDS". Like myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma, MDS is a blood system-related cancer. However, MDS is definitely a different condition than myeloma.
I did a quick search on PubMed to see if there is anything that's been published about using Vidaza as a treatment for myeloma. I couldn't find anything compelling, but maybe you'll find something that I missed.
Good luck!
