Very low IgA level - is it an error?

by SlimMoe on Thu May 19, 2016 5:46 pm

I just got my lab results from my quarterly testing and the number are strange.

Test Oct 2015 Feb 2016 May 2016 Normal Range

IgA 1625 1405 <50 70-400 mg/dL
IgG 767 697 751 700-1600 mg/dL
IgM 36 32 39 40-230 mg/dL

Do you think the current IgA number is an error? What could this mean?

I'm waiting on an return e-mail from the oncologist but am now getting a little nervous.

Thanks.

I have to believe this is an error. A quick reality check would be to look at your M-spike level since you clearly have IgA-type multiple myeloma. Do you know your latest M-spike (including units of measure) and your total protein level from your SPEP (including units of measure and normal range)?

Doc just emailed me. He thinks it is an error also. Weird. Other test results not in yet.

Hi SlimMoe,

Glad the doc thinks it's an error. Would have to be.

I'm wondering if you mind me asking if you still get that strange weird feeling with the air conditioning. I get it too and I have yet to come across anyone else mention it. Last year I slept with the air conditioner on and now I can't tolerate it. What's going on? Any ideas? Thanks.

Best wishes

Doc got back with me. It was definitely an error. New results are IgA of 1630, which is approximately 200 above last time.

Ozzie - I still stay away from the air conditioning. Don't mind the heat at all. And that's a good thing since I'm in Texas.
