Re: Velcade maintenance therapy - how long?

She did have an endoscopy for stomach and intestines at Stanford, but her GI specialist was really surprised that her stomach and intestines are fully functional without any inflammation and ulcers.

Then, she had acupuncture two times within two weeks, and feels much better with less painful cycles on neuropathy. We do not figure out the reasons that she feel extreme pain from neck to abdomen after visiting our family doctor. The neuropathy is a cause of eithet maintenance chemotherapy or other reasons such as menopause with flush...

Well, we will have a Hawaii cruise next Wednesday. Also, she will skip either one cycle or two cycles of Velcade maintenance chemotherapy for a break.

Well, our cruise is moving to our destination, Hawaii, after stopping in the Bay Area in San Francisco this Monday and Tuesday. The sun is shining before noon time.

All thousands of these guests are happy to have this beautiful day, November 25, and have a wonderful instructions of surviving life vest in sea.

She feels so excited without pain, and they have a nice buffet at the cafe. Now, who will care about chemotherapy? We just want to take another break for two more weeks during the great Thanksgiving holiday.

Well, we take five days to arrive at the Hilo island, Hawaii, but we are unable to park in port because the ship has a fire incident in switch box house that cause loss of power at 5:45 early in morning.

The captain works very hard to make sure our ship being in safety, announces he will keep fixing these issues several times. Now, they just extinguished the fires, but we still are waiting outside the port without landing in Hilo. The port authority does not allow us to do anything in the island.

What a day in my favorite Hawaii! Fortunately, she feels very OK in ship, and sleeps very well with no pain at all.

We did return from Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mexico to San Francisco port in safety after 15 days on Pacific Sea. After having a GI endoscopy without any ulcer and inflammations, she had a clinical visit to complain her pains as usual last week, but feel very painless on the cruises. then doctor still place an order of two more cycles of maintenance chemotherapy, and several labs tests.

Now, please all of our members would review following results from radiology exam and blood labs as below:

Radiographic Examination of the Skeleton (Metastatic Survey):
Dec 16, 2015 12:50 PM

Clinical History: 57 years of age, Female, H/o Plasmacytoma.

Comparison: December 29, 2014

Procedure Comments: Radiographs of the skeleton were obtained as follows.

Findings:

Lateral view of the skull: Several new small subtle lucencies within the parietal region, measuring up to 5 millimeter.

Lateral view of the cervical spine: There are no focal lytic or blastic lesions. There is reversal of the cervical lordosis. Moderate disc space narrowing and osteophytosis at C5-6. Other disc spaces and vertebral body heights are preserved.

Frontal and lateral views of the thoracic spine: There are no focal lytic or blastic lesions. Vertebral body heights are preserved. Redemonstration of multilevel anterior osteophytosis.

Frontal and lateral views of the L-spine: There are no focal lytic or blastic lesions. Vertebral body heights are preserved. Redemonstration of multilevel anterior early osteophytosis.

Frontal view of the pelvis: There are no focal lytic or blastic lesions. Mild acetabular dysplasia is seen bilaterally. Moderate degenerative changes of the right hip.

Result of Blood labs: No specific abnormalities seen. There is no evidence for the presence of monoclonal immunoglobulin in this patient's serum.

Interpretation Although this finding makes the diagnosis of multiple myeloma or "monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance" unlikely, if clinically warranted please request add-on of serum free light chains to rule out the possible presence of Bence Jones protein. Although urine protein electrophoresis may be used to detect Bence Jones protein, analysis of serum for free light chains is a more sensitive test.

Well, I do worry her skull with several new small subtle lucencies within the parietal region, measuring up to 5 millimeter. Does anyone have any suggestion and explanation on this issue?

Last Friday, January 29, she did finish the 46th cycle of maintenance chemotherapy by Velcade at ITA on Stanford Hospital.

Her nurse told us that her lab reports show all results are almost in normal except blood sugar. She still feel extreme pain around her stomach sometimes, but her psychiatrist thinks that it may be side effects of metformin.

Well, we will have another cruise to Mexico this week.

If anyone has any comments about the radiographic results I posted in December (see directly above), I would very much appreciate hearing them.

We did have another Alaska cruise from May 11 to May 21 last month. She feel very happy to have delicious foods at Italian restaurants in this Cruise. Now she are worry to get weights too much so that she drinks slim tea to make her weight loss. I did find the slim tea makes her stomach ache after having the tea too.

On this Wednesday, we did have a clinical visit to get the beginning of cycle 49 today. She did tell oncologists that she feel the extreme pain between her chest and stomach passing half year and became worse last two months, but our oncologists explain these pains are not caused by the Velcade of these maintenance chemotherapies. They think the numbness of tongue is only the side effect. Also ask her to visit our family doctor to find out what these pains happen.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Chen,

I am sorry for your mothers pain but glad you enjoyed your most recent cruise. We are hoping to see Alaska one day soon and had a wonderful visit to Hawaii in January.

Tell your mum to throw away the slim tea and just eat healthy food and enjoy those delightful Italian food memories.

I hope someone can help to answer your questions and help you find a solution.

I also hope she stays well for many years and you can share many more special times together.

Nothing makes me happier than spending time with my sons and I am sure spending time with you brings her great joy too.

She did finish the 50th cycle of maintenance chemotherapy, and still complain her extreme pain around abdomen and chest.

Our family doctor ordered and finished her abdomen ultrasound, and found several big gall stones on her gallbladder at O'Connor hospital, but he suggested to remove her gallbladder at Stanford hospital, because her oncologist knows better her unique case " Multiple Myeloma on Pancreatic and Pelvic".

We do get a referal from our oncologist to visit her minimal surgeon at Stanford hospital, but her surgeon explains that removing her gallbladder may not release her pain. Then, order a MRI, blood labs, ...

Now, we are waiting these tests..., I wish she will release her pain by this procedure.

Does anyone have the extreme pain cause by gall stones and release the kind of pain after reomoving their own gallbladder?

Does any other way release the pain to destroy these stones without removing their gallbladder ?

She finished the 55th cycle of the maintenance Velcade after having her gallbladder removed,, but still feels the pain as usual. Under my request, we will have a trip to Taiwan for Chinese New Year and take a cycle off after six years of treatment.

She has another appointment with a pain management specialist today. The acupuncture therapy is based on referral by her oncologist. She does improve, and the therapy releases the degrees of extreme pains from ten to five points after 45 minutes. We will have another appointment on next Monday morning. Thank you for the simple treatment to get wonderful and happy result.
