Fluid in lungs & difficulty eating from Velcade?

Hello,

I feel so grateful to have found this forum that has given me hope and answers.

My dad, 72, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 3 months ago. He was hospitalized for a month during the diagnosis. While in the hopsitl, he received the first session of the treatment (4 applications) of Velcade and dexamethasone. He also received 4 blood transfusions (he is O-) to increase his hemoglobin, which was so low. He has renal insufficiency and had lung infection with liquid in the lungs, which caused him lack of breathing when we first took him to the hospital.

After he came out of the hospital, he has received another complete 4 applications session of just Velcade. His oncologist says he has to complete 4 sessions (4 each).

After each Velcade application of 2.4 he has been experiencing fatigue, no appetite, difficulty swallowing and eating normally. He gets full very easily, some trembling and heart agitation. Sometimes less than others, and most times not more than 2 days after the shot.

After the 3rd shot of this 3rd session he has felt worse than ever. He's been feeling too much agitation, trouble breathing and sleeping. He can't move or walk much because he is out of breath.

We have stopped the treatment by the doctor's instructions, to see how he goes but it has not improved. We took him to the cardiologist to examine his agitation and the doctor said the lack of breathing is been caused by liquids in the lungs, so he is taking diuretics. It's been 4 days with the diuretics but still hasn´t improved.

My family and I think he might be also be depressed and probably feels anxiety and fear, but we are hoping for him to get better. I am afraid that his lungs are suffering again like when he was first diagnosed.

Every time after the treatment he was feeling almost normal except for this past 2 weeks.

Any suggestions or opinions of what is happening?

When myeloma gets in the lungs, it's the last stage. My father passed away December 5th, only 3 months after he was diagnosed.
