This is a struggle I have. . . I have recently started treatment for multiple myeloma with the oncologist I've seen at our current location for 5 years. Up till now it was just the "watch and wait" blood tests. Since my exposure to multiple myeloma has been since 2002, I have spent time over the years reading and learning. However I slowed that down considerably over the last five years because it tended to make me worry about something I didn't need to worry about yet.
Now that I have started treatment, there is little to no counseling on side effects from my oncologist office. When I mention what I have learned on the internet. . . the frowning begins, as if the internet is not a good source for information. . . I do get a second opinion at a nearby Cancer Center.
I know the practices are large and it is difficult to give individualized attention. . . however your experience emphasizes the need to take charge of your own decisions through education from the Myeloma Beacon, IMF, MMRF, etc.
