Hello Everyone,
It seems that my husband has advanced from smoldering multiple myeloma to active multiple myeloma and we will know by the end of the week, but I am almost 100 percent sure that he will start treatment. Our oncologist will start him with Velcade and dex. My husband has kidney problems (reason for treatment ), no bone involvement, and perhaps slight anemia.
So will you please share any experiences you may have had with these drugs?

I too know how scary it all can be. My husband was diagnosed January 2015. He had bone involvement but no kidney issue. Did radiation. Last day of radiation, we walked to chemo lab and he got his first Velcade and dex treatment. He did very well. The only real issue was the dex. Sleeping, a little personality issue, but nothing that we couldn't get thru.
Then in October of 2015 he wasn't responding much, so Revlimid was added to get him to a place that he could go through autologous transplant.
All I can say is find a good specialist in the field of multiple myeloma – one you feel you can really trust and make decisions together.

Most locations now give Velcade subcutaneously, that is as a shot in the belly. The most common noticeable side effect of Velcade is peripheral neuropathy, which is loss of feeling or pain at the ends of the arms and legs. With subcutaneous Velcade, it's manageable for most people, and as Nana has said, the "upper" and crash aspect of the dex is the most impactful issue for most people.

Thank you so much for the information. Swimming through all the information is so difficult. Just when I think "I get it," bam, something happens that makes me run to the computer and research, research, and more research! I will post when we get the exact results of the tests.

I was diagnosed after kidney failure and was treated with Velcade and dex. My kidneys recovered and I was in remission from the multiple myeloma within 3 or 4 months, although treatment continued until I had completed 9 cycles (36 weeks).
