Using placenta

by KristinMaria on Wed Jun 19, 2013 6:30 pm

Hi everyone,
Has anybody been treated or heard of a treatment when using placenta after two autologous stem cell transplants? Family member, male 56 is in remission after 2nd auto transplant (november 2012). I´m wondering if using my placenta will help if i´m a match. (daughter).
Appreciate all answers. Thanks :)

Hi KristinMaria,

Use of cord blood is a relatively new source of donor cells for transplants. I doubt there would be much data specifically for myeloma patients at this point. First remission is when donor transplants have the best chance of working so now would be the best time to use it. Here is what it says about these on the Be The Match website. Best of luck to your Dad and your family as things move forward.
