As I mentioned in a separate posting, I may be required by my insurance to have my upcoming stem cell transplant at the University of Southern California (USC) Norris Cancer Center.
Has anyone gone there for a stem cell transplant? Please tell me good, bad or otherwise as to your experience. My oncologist said that USC had the latest of everything for the whole transplant process.
My original preference was to have my transplant at City of Hope, but they do not have a contract with my insurance company.
God Bless, George

Outstanding care, staff, and doctor (Mohrbacher). Had my stem cell transplant there in March of 2012. Highly recommended. Everything can be done there. I can assure you that you'll be in the best of care.
If you need any info, let me know and I'll send you my phone #.

Re: Any experiences with USC Norris Cancer Center?
Coop223,
Thank you the reply. Also, sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner. Been dealing with my insurance and also having some major dental work done (implants) so I can get started on a bone infusion treatment of Zometa. My oncologist says that he will not start that treatment until all my major dental work is done and completely healed.
It really sounds like you had a positive experience there at USC. I hope all continues to go well for you. I have read a few comments from different sites other than The Myeloma Beacon, but I don't always trust everything I read. Most of those comments were positive, but some were really negative. Most of the negative ones were about billing.
I will be going to my oncologist next week for a follow up after blood work. He did say at our last visit that I needed to decide on a hospital for initial visit, future harvest and transplant. He spoke highly of USC. I asked about City Of Hope and he thought USC would be a better choice. I called the number listed in the web site for the autologous transplant department. The nurse was very nice and could tell that I had a lot of technical questions. She is going to send me a packet with all the info.
Thank you very much,
will try to call soon, George
