Urine Immunofixation Interpretation

by goldmine848 on Fri May 29, 2015 8:51 pm

Can someone tell me what this means:

" Urine Immunofixation Interpretation
Urine electrophoresis and immunofixation identifies a band of restricted electrophoretic mobility typing as IgG-kappa monoclonal
immunoglobulin. Additionally, albumin and other serum globulins are also seen. The monoclonal protein accounts for approximately 20% of total
urinary protein.
The amount of total urinary protein is too low to allow a formal quantitation."

Know also that at diagnosis my invloved clone was IgG Lambda.

Andrew,

Didn't your disease transition from IgG Lambda to IgG Lamda + IgG Kappa to just IgG Kappa? So, wouldn't you expect to only see IgG Kappa immunoglobulins in your urine?

I'm not a doc, but this seems like a good thing to have such a low protein count in one's urine that they can't measure the actual amount of the monoclonal immunoglobulins. And having low levels of protein in one's urine is normal, with albumin and non-monoclonal immunoglobulins being normal components of that protein spillage.

MB,
You are correct about my history and your interpretation is what I thought too. Just haven't seen this before in the urine so that is why I was questioning it. Hopefully, we are correct.
