Understanding my SPEP results - do I have kidney issues?

by Niki on Fri Jan 03, 2014 1:36 pm

Hi everybody,

I did an 24 hour urine electrophoresis immunofixation test. The good point is that it were both negative without any sign of M component. The problem is that we found out that I have proteinuria (total proteins 0.25 g/day), low creatinine(7.05mmol/day) but normal urea.

The other point that I cannot get is that from the normal urine sample not the 24 hour, that I did the same day, both the creatinine and total proteins are normal.

Could that mean that I have some trouble with the kidneys? Serum urea and creatinine levels are fine.

Best regards,

Niki

You don't give your age, but kidney problems are more prevalent than multiple myeloma. Some decrease in kidney function is also common with age.

Hello Niki,
Good news !
That is a very low level of protein in the 24 hour urine collection. This does not signify a problem.
Best of luck to you.
