Tubular syndromes / fanconi syndrome
I was wondering has anyone have been tested for any tubular syndromes/fanconi syndrome? What does someone with mgus do when there gp does basic cbc/metabolic tests and they have several abnormal findings? Do you wait till your yearly mgus labs to discuss the abnormal labs done at gp office? I have increasing metabolic/electrolyte issues and signs of kidney problems as well. The gp does not know the significance of these abnormal labs. I think they will never figure me out.....
Re: Tubular syndromes / fanconi syndrome
Occasionally patients who otherwise would be considered to have MGUS, due to a low level of plasma cells and myeloma protein, can develop a Fanconi-like syndrome due to deposits of the abnormal light and/or heavy chain in the proximal tubules of the kidney. If you are having electrolyte or other metabolic abnormalities concerning for this, I would suggest seeing a nephrologist for further evaluation and work-up. If it's confirmed to be related to the MGUS, then treatment may be indicated to stop the production of the abnormal light and/or heavy chain and prevent kidney damage.
