On May and June i had chemo(VRD-PACE). After these 2 cycles i went into a complete remission. On July i collected stem cells. After that, August and September i stayed out of treatment. October i received Rd and then November VRD-PACE. December i stayed again out of treatment. Now i think is the time for a stem cell transplant. What do you think? When i am a High risk patient with Del17 is it too risky to stay out of treatment for some time? Is it now the best time to make the ASCT when i am in CR?
Best regards
Maria

Re: Treatment Plan
There is no absolute right way to this and not all centers agree. It sounds like you have experienced myeloma doctors. I would follow their advice in terms of the timing of the transplant. It sounds like the near future could be the time.
Best of luck in your journey with this disease.

Hi Anonymous,
Dr Libby was right in that there is no absolute right way to do this. Think carefully about deciding on the SCT, although you have harvested the stem cells, you don't have to follow thru with the transplant. I declined a SCT in pursuit of other therapies, but I digress.
Stem cell transplants come with some VERY serious potential side effects that I would carefully consider before committing to. Many people on this site have had the procedure and it has served them well, while others have relapsed or become very ill, or even worse.
Keep researching - don't take all doctors advice as gospel and make your own informed decision based on the risks for and against. Only you can make the choice.
Keep well.
