Tom, 56, diagnosed December 2015 with del(17p)

by ThomasZ on Thu Nov 02, 2017 6:29 pm

Hi,

I am Tom, living in Europe and having been diagnosed with multiple myeloma with deletion 17p back in December 2015.

I had a induction therapy with Velcade, cyclophosphamide, and dexamethasone (VCD) and a tandem stem cell transplant.

I had been put on Velcade maintenance in October 2016, initially at 2.2 mg, and later reduced to 1.8 mg for hefty neuropathy. After my neurologist had assessed a grade 3 neuropathy last week, I together with my hematologist decided to switch to 10 mg Revlimid therapy.

Welcome to the forum, Tom. I wish you didn't have to be here, but I think you'll find it a wonderful place to learn and help others.

I'm sorry to hear about your neuropathy. Hopefully it will get better with time. It does in many cases.

If you haven't already discovered it, this post at the top of the Treatment & Side Effects section has links to forum discussions on a broad range of treatment- and side effect-related topics, including lots of discussions about neuropathy and about Revlimid.

Good luck!

Hi Tom,

Welcome to this forum. It contains a wealth of information and support.

My story is close to yours, i am soon to compete my second auto transplant; due to the deletion of the chromosomes (high risk for relapse). I've written about my first transplant, and the decisions I have to make before the second transplant, in this thread:

Perhaps you can share some insights there about the tandem transplant process, particularly what the second transplant is like.

The best of luck to you. Stay strong!
