Timing of Zometa infusions when on RVD treatment?

Hello,

My sister is being treated with Revlimid, Velcade, and dexamethasone (RVD) for her relapsed multiple myeloma. She also gets Zometa infusions.

How do the infusions fit into the RVD schedule? Can it be done on days of taking the drugs, or does it have to be scheduled for the week of resting?

Hi Gala,

To the best of my knowledge, there is no specific period in the treatment cycle when the Zometa should be avoided, or when it should be given. I have received infusions every three months since 2012, and I have never been advised to the contrary.

In my husband's experience with all three of those drugs, each drug had their own schedule which was unaffected by each other. Whenever the Zometa schedule fell, regardless of the other drugs, he received it.

I currently am on RVD plus Empliciti (elotuzumab) and I also have quarterly Zometa infusions. For me, I get the Zometa when I'm at the infusion center for the Empliciti. I've had it on day 1 of my cycle or day 15. I don't think it makes any difference.

I'm actually going in tomorrow morning to get Zometa and Velcade. It will be my 3rd dose of Zometa and 7th dose of Velcade. But it's the first time I'm getting them on the same day. I'll let you know if there is any extra nausea or bone aches.
