Timing of bone marrow biopsy post transplant?

Hello,

I am hoping someone can answer this question: I am scheduled for my first post transplant bone marrow biopsy tomorrow. I will only be 84 days post transplant. Is this too soon to get true results?

Just curious since I always hear about 100 days out being mentioned in posts.

I got one about three or four weeks after the transplant.

Mine was 5-6 weeks after the transplant.

I didn't have one after my transplant. The only one I've had was at diagnosis.

I had my third bone marrow biopsy after my transplant at approximately 100 days. This was to show how the transplant had worked, I think. It was after that that I had the venous central line removed and was discharged from the bone marrow transplant clinic and referred back to my hematological oncologist for follow up (and further treatment). I think that if the bone marrow biopsy had shown myeloma plasma cells then the treatment course might have been changed, but am not sure about that.

Thank you for your responses. It is interesting to see the differences in when to have a bone marrow biopsy post transplant. I guess the 100 day mark doesn't always get considered. I agree with you Nancy and also confirmed with my doctor about mine. He is looking at the percent of plasma cells to help determine what line of treatment should be taken next.
