Hi Carol. My husband, Bryan, completed tandem SCTs in Oct. 2011 and was released to move home in November. He started back to work in January 2012 after 6 months of long term disability. Unfortunately, he has relapsed but continues to work full time. He has used all of his leave, so he schedules his treatments for Friday afternoons and Saturdays to maximize the work week. As luck would have it, he started a new job last August and disability won't kick in for a year. He feels compelled to work in order to support his family. He receives the raised eyebrows from everyone including his docs when he mentions that he works. I think he is the most admirable person I know.
It seems sad, but I think (he does too) that work keeps him stimulated. He does tire easily and often naps when he gets home, but we both feel that he has a purpose and a reason to push on. I should have mentioned that he turned 50 last month. I guess what I'm trying to share is that working is important to his self-worth and he will continue to work. He is facing an allo transplant and we are hoping to wait until the disability insurance kicks in in September. Keep your fingers crossed!
Good luck to you, Beth

It is indeed very commendable that your husband pushes through and works all week! It appears that everyone responds differently to the SCT and recovers at differing paces. I am hoping to follow Jerry's story and be ready to get back to work by at least mid October. We'll see. God bless your husband and your family!
