Re: Low thyroid activity (TSH levels) & multiple myeloma

Interesting. I have been hypothyroid and treated as such for over 20 years. I am now on 125 mcg Synthroid.

I just wish something would fix my extremely low energy levels.

Dianem,

You didn't mention if you were under treatment for multiple myeloma or just in the MGUS stage. I also am on an 88 dose of thyroid medicine after thyroid cancer in 2008. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2013 but have so few symptoms that I just do alternative drugs at this point. I am also considering asking for a lower dose when I return to my endocrinologist in October.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Barbara,

I've had MGUS for almost three years and treated for low thyroid for about 20 years. I started lowering the Synthyroid dose over a year ago and now take 88 mcgs. I see an oncologist annually for monitoring MGUS. I have zero symptoms from MGUS and didn't notice any 'thyroid' change since lowering Synthyroid. My PCP feels I was over medicated.

Good luck with lowering the dose - Diane

I saw a doctor, trying to control my MGUS (now asymptomatic myeloma), which made me do sophisticated analyses.

My iodine level was super low, and the doctor gave me a supplement iodine (I-biane, Laminaria digitata (edible seaweed)). He also gave me vitamins B12, selenium, zinc, magnesium, etc.

It's been a month and a half I take it all, but I find myself more tired, and now I have a bad back.

Is it certain that iodine can advance disease?

Here in Paris (France), the hospital sees me only every six months, a consultation of 20 minutes, and does not give me any treatment.

I'm afraid I made a mistake in taking these supplements.
