I was "on" the Internet before www and on www from the first year.
I have used BBS's for professional purposes via direct phone lines and AppleLink before the Internet.
But I have never ever seen a forum for general users with such a high level of communication between the participants.
I have never seen a forum with so competent commenting from experts.
And I was really impressed when one of my posts with values entered with European units (M-component, etc.) had the US values added by someone editing my text.
The issue here is important, to put it mildly. And this is of course a moderating factor in itself. But I am impressed!
Yours sincerely,
Lev

Re: The most professional forum I have ever seen
Lev,
I agree wholeheartedly. This forum is extraordinary and extraordinarily successful because the moderators have a very specific objective and adhere to that objective in monitoring the discourse. All contributions seem to be correct, or if not correct, corrected. The goal is to share current and valuable data/information on what has been borne out through clinical studies. And let's face it, multiple myeloma and all it's enumerations are very difficult for most of us to understand.
This takes a tremendous amount of commitment and time. Kudos to our wonderful moderators and to the physicians who are part of this forum as well.

Re: The most professional forum I have ever seen
Thank you for your very kind feedback, Lev. It particularly means a lot to us coming from someone such as yourself who has been involved with online communities for such a long time.
We do what we can from our side to ensure that the forum is as valuable to the myeloma community as possible. We work with physician experts (the Beacon's Medical Advisors) to ensure their availability and that they address questions that particularly require their attention. We also curate the forum discussions to ensure that postings are readable, respectful, and as free as possible from spam and other promotional content.
None of this would make much of a difference, however, if it weren't for the incredible people who post regularly here in the forum. This includes, of course, the physicians who volunteer their valuable time to help out in the forum.
But, just as importantly, it includes the many forum participants who have invested hours upon hours of their time, making literally hundreds of forum postings, to provide support and insightful advice to patients and caregivers from all over the world.
So, not surprisingly, the strength of this online community is the result of a joint effort. We're just glad we could do what we can to contribute to it.
(And thank you, Toni, for your kind words as well!)

I could not agree more with all the comments above and especially that one. This really is an amazing resource for patients.
