Hi,
I have not gotten back the protein electrophoresis, but I got back what appears to be a negative test for "Kappa / Lambda Light Chains, Free with Ratio / Serum."
It says:
Kappa light chain, free, serum - 6.9 - In Range - Reference Range 3.3-19.4 mg/L
Lambda light chain, free, serum - 9.1 - In Range - Reference Range 5.70-26.3 mg/L
Kappa/lambda light chains free with ratio, serum - 0.76 - In Range - Reference Range (0.26-1.65)
Does this mean I don't need to worry about the protein electrophoresis? They did both of them, but they finished this first. Let me know if you understand this and if I can stop worrying or not.
Thank you. Sorry to bother you all!

Re: What test result will rule out multiple myeloma?
Hypo,
Do you do any outdoor sports, biking, hiking, skiing or any study any martial arts etc ? Play basketball at the local gym with like-aged individuals once a week etc?
I'm not trying to be an ass either...

Hi , I understand why you say this. I have severe PTSD due to a close friend passing away suddenly from leukemia and my son being diagnosed with regressive autism . I developed hypochondria as a result and am in therapy. Yes I do exercise and am a professional musician.
Just trying to understand a disease I was worried about . Feel free to ignore me if my questions bothered you .

I would be optimistic, but I would await the results of the electrophoresis test and validation from your doctor.

Does it come close to ruling it out to have the normal light chains test?

Nah, your questions don't bother me at all; sometimes moderate exercise assists in keeping anxiety in check; once or twice a-week kung fu class or something (once your doctor has ruled out any myeloma). You indeed have a heavy weight on your shoulders.

Just having a hard time waiting for the results of the protein electrophoresis . Since my kappa lamda was negative, does this make it less likely I need to worry?

Hypo,
While no one but a doctor can rule out myeloma completely, take into account that myeloma is a fairly rare disease.

Hypo,
Like I said, "I would be optimistic, but I would await the results of the electrophoresis test and validation from your doctor". If you want to take that statement as it being less likely that you have a monoclonal gammopathy, then please do so. I also already mentioned that "your numbers look great. I can't imagine that you would have multiple myeloma, but only your doctor can make that determination".
I realize that you have hypochondria and are quite anxious, but you need to also realize that you are on an Internet forum and we aren't doctors and we can't give you any assurances as to what's going on. Only your doctor can do that.

Hypo,
Off topic, but how much help are you getting with your autistic child ?
Are you accessing the various support services your community provides?
I don't know which state or province or country you live in, but many juridictions provide help to parents with autistic childen, such as here in Ontario http://www.children.gov.on.ca/htdocs/English/topics/specialneeds/autism/index.aspx
