Symptoms of MGUS or smoldering multiple myeloma?

by acventura on Sun Nov 19, 2017 10:48 am

I would like to learn more about what symptoms are usually experienced at the time MGUS or smoldering multiple myeloma are diagnosed.

In my case, none. I was diagnosed incidentally during a workup for an unrelated problem. That was over 2 years ago and I remain asymptomatic. Lab work and oncologist appointments every 3 months. No treatment except for Zometa infusions for osteoporosis of the spine every 3 months. Fingers crossed.

Did someone summon me?

Just kidding.

The same with me. No symptoms. My smoldering myeloma was detected through investigation of another abnormality. I still have no symptoms and it's been just over 3 years now. If anything, most of my myeloma markers have trended down slightly since my diagnosis. I am not on any medication.

I also have smoldering multiple myeloma and have no other symptoms except I have crystals in my corneas. If the eye specialist I am seeing in a few weeks confirms it, I will have to start treatment and will no longer be considered smoldering (I discussed this issue in this forum thread).
