Strange tidings

by StevenL on Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:22 am

Not sure what to put as a subject. I think were all here for the same reason. Either we or someone we care about has been given the big C diagnosis.

In no way to diminish the losses and suffering of the people who are going thru multiple myeloma, but I would like to say that if you've just been diagnosed with multiple myeloma and it was caught early. These are interesting times with respect to many new chemo and novel approaches that are being developed/tested to manage with the ultimate goal of curing this disease.

My advice to anyone who has also just been diagnosed, please DO NOT despair and become withdrawn/depressed and ALWAYS keep a positive attitude. Having a positive attitude, zest for life and a clean and healthy diet can make the difference between complete remission or just satisfactory results.
You must help yourself before anyone will truly be able to help you!

As per my parent, it is my hope to find and map out the best therapy regiments as of today for her phase, and to seek out a specialist who works with multiple myeloma as much as possible and work with them to discuss all options based not just on her phase but also the genetic profile of her multiple myeloma mutation.

This is a marathon and not a sprint, and I'm sure I'll be back to post updates as time progresses. If nothing else, hopefully this site will serve as a means of catharsis and reorganization of my thoughts.

I wish everyone the best, and I look forward to interacting with others who share my position.
