I have been experiencing a strange sense of smell. It is kinda like a solvent taste and smell yet others don't notice. I noticed today a bit of dizziness and a hint of nausea.
I'm on the road as a salesman and will be back home Saturday or Sunday. Just wondering if these symptoms ring a bell. Will be seeing my oncologist Wed. but if this is something I should research sooner please let me know.
I'm over a year from ASCT and had a good response. I'm on Revlimid 21 and 7 rotation and Zometa once monthly.

Re: Strange effects of smell, opinions?
Hi Canuk Bob, I'm also from Canada (Ontario).
Just a thought, but have you had any sinus issues recently? Or a cold/ allergies?
I have some sinus issues. In my case frequent infections (sinus, ear, etc) have been a part of Myeloma for me. I'm on antibiotics at the moment for a sinus infection.
sometimes I get this thing where I think I smell smoke, only there is no smoke, but I have a smoke smell in my sinus. It's annoying that all the phantom smells always seem to be bad smells.

Re: Strange effects of smell, opinions?
My husband had his stem cell transplant September of last year. For a while he kept smelling alcohol and sometimes finger nail polish!! And the smell of my hairspray gagged him really bad!

Re: Strange effects of smell, opinions?
Actually I've been wrestling with a nasty bug for awhile and gapped some recent immunization shots I've been taking to get my system immunized again.
I realized last night that I have let my water consumption drop over the holiday. I have always been prone to problems since chemo if I let my hydration level get low. I've hydrated since and feel much better. I don't usually get too worried but this caught me by surprise and traveling the more remote oilpatch country prompted me to post just in case.
Between Zometa and calcium, Revlimid constipation, Hepatitis boosters, turkey and chocolate, and the flu I think this is diagnosed!
Thanks.

Re: Strange effects of smell, opinions?
I am on round three of chemo. (dex, doxil and Velcade.) I am off for 18 days between rounds. I definitly am more sensitive to foul smells when on the chemo. I smell odors my husband doesnt. and get a metalic taste when i cough. When i am off reatment, the sensitivity to foul smells and the metalic taste disappears.

Re: Strange effects of smell, opinions?
I had an auto four and half years ago. Since then, If there is any oil, gasoline or diesel in the smallest amount, I smell it and it drives me totally up the wall. I have to leave or have the petroleum product removed.
It can be as small as a little on my husbands clothes.
I just take it as my body trying to protect itself from what could trigger the multiple myeloma cells back to life.
I am on no drugs, take an occasion Vit. D. Never did maintenance. Still complete response.

I get a smoke smell too. It started a few months ago, lasted for about a week, then went away. Now it's back again.
