Stopping treatment for a hip replacement (or similar)?

Does anyone have experience with stopping treatment (Revlimid) for six weeks for a hip replacement or any procedure?

I had a SCT months ago and my numbers are great. I’m 60 years old and very active. My doctor said now if the best time for me to have hip surgery. I am concerned about stopping the Revlimid for 6 weeks.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Excellent question.

If the hip is bothering you significantly or limiting daily activity, then I think stopping the Revlimid is reasonable. I am not sure that 6 weeks would be absolutely necessary. It could be resumed once you are up and about after surgery provided appropriate prophylactic anticoagulation is used. In these cases, I use injectable anticoagulants such as Lovenox or Arixtra. There are also newer oral agents that have been approved for prophylaxis against blood clots after orthopedic surgery but these have not been extensively studied in multiple myeloma patients on Revlimid.
