Is it the Dex that causes the inability to sleep even when my eyes won't stay open? I wondered what was going on...And the weight gain!!!! My own daughter didn't recognize me in a picture someone posted! I hate steroids! Does anyone know of a substitite?

I received word 12/26/2011 that I had stage 3 multiple myeloma. What a great way to start the Christmas week! My son turned me on to the Beacon, which I have found to be an excellent resource. I plan contribute as time goes on since I find the experience of others so highly informative, and often inspiring.
Anyway, I have been on Rev/Dex since mid January. My side effects have been few and far between. My light chain numbers have already come down in two months from 6300 to 650, which my onc tells me are extremely good.
Regarding steroids, I find that the DEX is great stuff. I feel much better for up to 48+ hours after taking my 40mg; my aches and pains are mitigated by 75% or more. ALSO, when I got a pretty bad rash from the Rev (Stephen/Johnson Syndrome -hope I got that right) taking the DEX cleared it completely up within a couple of days, and the rash has not come back. If it does, I am assuming that another round of Dex will take care of it.
