Husband finally finished his 4 day VRD-PACE. He is now home and feeling horrible, which is not unexpected. We met with his oncologist today and I brought up the insurance issue. Our insurance will only cover his transplant as an out of network hospital, which would mean majorly prohibitive out of pocket expense for us. Our oncologist is working on trying to get our local hospital approved as an in network provider, but I am not overly optimistic on that happening.
Anyway, she said if she cannot get the in-network approval for the transplant here, she would send him to Mt. Sinai in Manhattan. So I am wondering if there is anyone here that has had their transplant there, and if so how was your experience with the hospital.

Re: SCT at Mt. Sinai in New York - experiences?
In addition to the thread Multibilly mentioned, I wanted to add that Mt. Sinai has a good reputation for myeloma treatment. The clinicians there, Dr Ajai Chari and Dr. Jagannath, who specialize in myeloma, are both originally from St. Vincent's hospital in NYC, which was a member of the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC). When St. Vincents went bankrupt, Mt Sinai brought the entire program over and joined the MMRC. They have been very committed to expanding the program since then - lots of research, lots of myeloma publications.
