Re: Length of hospital stay for a stem cell transplant?

Greg,

My husband (43 years old) is on Day 16 of his stem cell transplant inpatient at MD Anderson in Houston. He was inpatient from the day before he received the high-dose mephalan until yesterday, which was Day 15, when he was discharged to a short-term apartment near the hospital. He's now doing daily visits and labs at the hospital, but otherwise is at the apartment.

Like many of the previous posters, he was glad to be in-patient for the transplant because he did have significant nausea, GI and bladder issues, headaches and general discomfort resulting from the chemo that was managed well by the nursing staff and physicians, who could respond quickly and get him meds. And he's doing quite well now after a rough week last week; his appetite is recovering and he is doing lots of laps around the apartment building.

Best of luck to you!
