I was 48 when I had my SCT. I was absolutely miserable. never been so sick in my life. I didn't have the mouth sores at all but had everything else.

I must disagree on the getting up and walking part though. I was told it was very important to get up and move as much as I could as it caused the body to create more blood and to heal faster. No I sure didn't want to and barely had the strength to do it but I did. It also helps to keep the lungs clear.

It's a tough thing to get through, at least for me, but it does get better. It just takes time. it will get better!! Stay strong!

Day 18. And has definately gotten better. Had mucositis so bad couldn't even swallow. What meds could be transferred to IV were however had to stop his gabapentin. 1200 mg - 3 times a day. Had extreme withdrawals. Nurses said they have never seen such a bad case of mucositis. Also severe diarrhea but it is now slowing. It is part to the treatment and part to the withdrawals.

His counts are all coming up good and we are hoping to go home in a week or two. Trying to work with pain clinic to lower his pain meds. He is so drugged all he does is sleep. He has been on this level since July. Unfortunately they don't seem to want to take the time to help us with this so I will be figuring it out at home. He didn't go though this to sleep all day. He was placed on the high amounts when his back broke and pain was intense. However after all this time with the bone shots we feel it is reasonable to try to lower them.

He is starting to feel really good and hoping to return to work - very modified soon.

So looking forward to going home. Our grandson was born on the 20th and can't wait to meet him
