Thank you to everyone who have responded to my post. I am really happy I found this forum and all of you. I will definitely drink lots of water, slower rate on I.V. and try the walking. I'm hoping this time around I tolerate it better.
Living alone with some of this stuff is tough, but I realize it could be worse. I try to be positive just like my blood type B+. Thanks again!

Re: Starting Zometa once a month - anyone else?
I had my 1st monthly infusion last week. I drank a lot of water the day before and the nurse gave me saline along with the Zometa. She also issued it over 45 min.
I am pleased to say that this time I felt pretty good. A little tired but nothing like the first time.

Re: Starting Zometa once a month - anyone else?
I've been on monthly Zometa for almost a year. Luckily, I've not had any bad side effects. The cancer clinic where I get it gives me 2 Tylenol (paracetamol, acetaminophen), longer drip time of 45 minutes and they suggest taking Claritin (loratadine) to alleviate discomfort. Who would have thought Claritin??
Good luck, everyone, with your infusions!

Re: Starting Zometa once a month - anyone else?
So, may I ask what the premise is for those of you on monthly Zometa infusions? Is it prophylactic for high-risk smoldering myeloma, or is it because of osteopenia or osteoporosis?
Your responses are appreciated.

Hi Lisa, that is weird about Claritin. I take it everyday for my crazy allergies. Maybe that contributed to me feeling better this time!
Hi Jhorner - My doctor prescribed the once-a-month dose after my bone marrow biopsy. I also have osteoporosis, but the usual course for osteoporosis is a once-a-year infusion. I have high lambda light chain of 850, so I think my doctor wants to be more cautionary at this point.
Hope everyone has a great week!

Re: Starting Zometa once a month - anyone else?
After remission 7 months ago, I started a Zometa IV infusion once per month. After the first treatment, I got sick, weak, and vomited several times. I was ready to discontinue.
Called my nurse practitioner and she suggested that I take loratadine (Claritin) immediately and before and after each treatment. It worked and I've done fine ever since. They don't know how or why it works.

I started Zometa Thursday, the 16th of June. Friday morning at 2 a.m., I got hit with all the side effects. I will be trying the Claritin and walking next month.
I am starting Revlimid, dex and next month Ninlaro will be added. My journey begins.
