It's been less than 3 months since my multiple myeloma diagnosis. I had pain in my side since February 2017. I did not see the doctor until the end of April. He suspected a broken rib, gave me pain medicine, and after a month follow on in June I had 3 ribs broken, and he finally decided to do another x-ray after that.
In August I knew something was bad news. The doctor ordered a CT and PET scan and when I came back for results he had me sit down with his nurse, who was also a cancer patient. I knew my very lucky exceptional life was also interrupted. The nurse was very sweet and spiritual, but I am a very rational man. Then I got the bad news from the doctor and, funny thing, I was very happy it was not a metastasized lung cancer. Then I a myeloma specialist and found one near home and had a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.
I have multiple lesions all over my chest and legs but luckily no high risk chromosomal abnormalities. I am between stage I and II. Hoping for the best as a newbie in the scary cancer world. SI am sill thinking I will wake up and it will all be one bad dream, but I know better. I guess I'm making my peace with it.

Re: StanK, diagnosed with multiple myeloma after broken ribs
Hi Stan,
Ribs were the only thing that I had involved as well, but I didn't get to diagnosis that way. I guess I was too hard headed to pay attention to my body. I have been in treatment now for about 6 weeks and it is going well. I hope the same for you, too, as you venture through this world of multiple myeloma. This forum is rich with information about treatments, side effects, experiences and in general a place for support. I wish you the best in your recovery and look forward to hearing and sharing experiences with you!
