I am a Maryland resident and will have an auto SCT in the next few weeks. I have applied for SSDI Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and am aware of the five month wait period. However, I have four children who will also be eligbile for benefits, and I have been given conflicting information regarding family, or auxiliary, benefits by Social Security Administration (SSA) representatives.
Does any one have experience with family benefits? Are they excluded from the five month wait period?
Since I have failed to achieve remission during the induction phase, is the approval based on the date of diagnosis or the date of the SCT?
I am trying to make a financial plan for my family for the months ahead, and any insight would be a big help.

Re: SSDI and family (auxiliary) benefits
I wanted to post an update to my original post. In order for your family to receive auxiliary benefits, the qualified worker has to currently receive benefits. Technically, the five-month waiting period will apply since you aren't eligible for benefits until after that period ends.
