I did my transplant as an outpatient at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. I stayed at a nearby apartment building specifically for patients undergoing transplants. The apartment we had was cleaned before our arrival. After that, the cleaning was up to us ... or I should say my husband.
He was with me the entire time (except for a brief 5-day stay in the hospital). We took the shuttle to the hospital almost daily. We ate together, slept together, did everything together. The SCCA provided classes on how to prepare food, what I could or could not eat, what I could do. My husband was my nurse. He flushed my lines and hooked me up for IV fluids.
So, I guess each place is different but I was grateful to have my husband with me.
