Son to a father who had multiple myeloma at 40 years old

by Bobvancleef38 on Thu Mar 13, 2014 11:13 am

Hi, I am the only son to a father who had multiple myeloma when he was 40. This was 20 years ago and he is still alive today. His longevity is down to his age at the time and the fact his body was super fit. However, the multiple myeloma completely ruined him physically (deformed back) and he never went back to work again (previously a sales person). His self esteem was completely destroyed and unfortunately his (original) family were belligerent and selfish. He therefore had no support from anyone except his wife (my mother).

In other posts I'd like to talk about how the stigma and discrimination surrounding cancers like multiple myeloma, is so devastating, ESPECIALLY for males.

Thanks.

Hi,

I was really surprised to see your post as your dad was back to life from most deadly disease. God has seriously blessed him with hope and confidence. My dad too was diagnosed with the multiple myeloma before 4 years and relapsed back with disease last year and still under treatment.

Where you are from and where your father have undergone treatment and how he is under maintenance? If you share the information it will be so grateful as many are suffering from this disease and struggling to fight against this multiple myeloma.

We are from the UK. He was treated in the UK nearly 20 years ago. If things had worked I would have agreed that we had been blessed but the way it's turned out, it's actually been a huge curse for everyone in the family.

Hi,

Don't worry. Something in life will be very worse. But you have to just get through it. Health is important than anything and being with our lovable person is higher than anything.

Is he on maintenance treatment?

He takes a number of drugs every day and he goes in for check-ups now and again.

Hi,

Can I know the hospital name and drugs he used for his maintenance. It would be grateful if you share these information. I pray to God you and your family will surely lead a peaceful life.

Thank you

I don't know what drugs he takes, but its quite a lot. The hospital was in Edinburgh.

Are there any other males here who got multiple myeloma at a younger age? How did it affect your partnership? Did you divorce? Did you struggle to meet a new person etc? Thanks.
