Smoldering myeloma without ever progressing

by Jacqueline on Thu Jan 29, 2015 2:24 pm

Hello,

I do not know if this question is relevant, but ...

Are there any recent and serious studies showing that persons lived only with smoldering myeloma without ever having multiple myeloma, and died at a normal age of another disease or old age?

I know we can have MGUS throughout his life without problems (only 1% per year will be myeloma) ...

thanks

Jacqueline,

You may want to read through this fairly recent thread...

"Risk of progression in smoldering multiple myeloma," forum disc. started Sep 13, 2014.

Basically, the longer you smolder, the less are your chances that you will progress to symptomatic multiple myeloma.

We all hang on to that possibility, Jacqueline.

It is possible to smolder for a very long time and die from something completely irrelevant.

Hope we are all those lucky ones.

Wish you all well.
