With increased anemia, I may be ending my "smoldering"period (I'm getting now a second opinion ... I live in Washington, DC).
I'm wondering if anyone has used any complementary therapies to try to stem the advance from smoldering to multiple myeloma.
Also, is stem cell transplant the first line of defense after ending the smoldering period? I get that impression. Is there an alternative to moving straight to that, rather than using any drug cocktails?

Re: Smoldering period may be ending
Good morning, William:
Very briefly, there are more clinical trials now for smoldering than ever before. As you mentioned, if anemia is taking a big hit, maybe you are even progressing. If you are still smoldering, however, I would look at the trials at NIH, Bethesda, John's Hopkins, and UPenn. There is some thought right now to knock down the myeloma before it causes any damage (as opposed to watch and wait). Good luck.
