Skin-related Revlimid side effects

by curecancernow on Wed May 04, 2016 10:13 pm

Hello all,

I hope all is well. This is my first post.

A brief background: Diagnosed with multiple myeloma and amyloidosis in January 2015. Velcade (3 months) did not work. Revlimid (two rounds) gave me a bad rash. In July 2015 we decided to proceed with a stem cell transplant. Some success but still have both amyloidosis and multiple myeloma in my body.

April 2016 I was put on 10 mg Revlimid as maintenance. I am taking Zantac (ranitidine), L lysine, and Zyrtec (cetirizine) to prevent rash.

As I am starting on the second round of Revlimid tonight, I have noticed dryness of skin in my face, neck, and upper chest areas. I also have noticed very small brown spots (almost like a mole but flat and very light in color) appearing on my face arms and upper chest area.

Has anyone experienced such a thing? If so, what was the remedy?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi,

Sorry you are having these issues, but Revlimid seems to have many issues as well as supposed benefits.

I have had the rash issue and the dry skin issue. Dry eyes, thirst, and general feeling of dehydration, but not the brown spot. However, what I have had is an itchy red spot that looks like a bite but isn't. The good news is that these side effects went away after a few cycles.

Also, I have had two clots while on Revlimid, so be sure an anticoagulant is on your medicine list.

Best! BN

Hi,

I've been on Revlimid maintenance since September 2013. It has been doing a good job of keeping the multiple myeloma at bay.

But one possible side effect sounds related to what curecancernow and Bar None are talking about here. Periodically a spot appears on the back of one of my hands, almost like a large insect bite or a round scab. It doesn't itch or hurt, but it is more sensitive than the rest of the skin in that area. Each spot will stay there for months, then magically go away. But soon after one disappears, another one develops. Usually I only have one spot at a time. This has been going on since shortly after I started maintenance.

I also have something else that might be related - mouth sores that seem to develop very quickly; like one minute my mouth is fine, then the next minute there's a sore in there. Luckily, these only last a day at most then go away, and they are infrequent.

Hello Jay,

I was taking Revlimid 25 mg for about 3 months and I started getting a rash that eventually covered 60% of my body. No itch. But was warm to the touch. Also had swelling of the face and head. I remember a few spots, but that wasn't my concern at the time with all the rash problem.

I was taken off of Revlimid and within a week and a half it cleared up. After several months on another treatment that got me to a complete response, I was put on a maintenance of Velcade, dex and Revlimid, but the Revlimid was at 15 mg. The lower dose of Revlimid being 15 mg did not present any spots or rash issues.

My oncologist basically said that it was more the dose at 25 mg than the drug itself. My body just couldn't take the 25 mg but at 15 mg it could.
