Should I stop dexamethasone when I have a cold?

by bodumene on Fri Jan 05, 2018 8:16 pm

I have gotten a cold while on daily maintenance of 10 mg Revlimid (3 out of 4 weeks), supplemented with 10 mg dexamethasone taken once a week for the same 3 out of 4 weeks.

Should I not take the dexamethasone while the cold is active?

My understanding is that dexamethasone interferes with the immune response. Will it therefore inhibit the ability of my immune system to fight the cold virus?

I am currently in complete remission of multiple myeloma. I had a blood draw this week prior to the day I am scheduled to take the dexamethasone, and my white cells have gone up since the last blood draw before my cold, but are still in the normal range.

Thank you in advance for any information.
