Should I consult my doctor?

by Goodnightwish on Tue Apr 03, 2012 1:55 am

Hello. I would first like to thank you for taking the time to read this and possibly help me.

I am only 22, but lately I have felt something is not "quite right." I have had nausea, vomiting, and occasional bowel problems for about 2 years. Just recently, I have noticed my joints and bones hurting very badly to where I cannot hardly walk or sometimes sit up. I have had back problems for at least 2 years and it never quite goes away. My ribs and back are very sensitive to where they cannot be touched sometimes. I am tired all the time and sleep a lot. This my doctors have attributed to my depression.

The reason I am here asking about these problems is that I watched my grandmother suffer with multiple myeloma. My grandmother's brother also has it. I am worried that it might be genetic.

Can anyone tell me if I should ask my doctor about it? I feel if I do, I will get laughed at because I am so young, but it does concern me.

Thank you for your time. Please feel free to ask any relevant questions.

Hi !
Whenever someone is having physical complaints it is reasonable to consult a physician.
In general multiple myeloma is not an inherited disease that runs in families although there are exceptions. As you stated it would be very very unusual for a 22 year old to develop multiple myeloma but this is not unheard of. So.....you should discuss your physical problems with your primary care physician.
