Should he be getting a PET scan?
My husband had an ASCT 2 yrs ago. In the last year his M-spike has been slowly creeping up from a low of 0.1, the last few months stayed at 0.7, and last month's was 1.0. He is on Velcade and Rev. He just had this months labs drawn, and doesn't want to know the results as we are leaving in a few days for a 2 week trip to Italy. At the very end of the month he is scheduled for his 2 year follow up at Mayo. His Mayo doc is not aware of last months jump in the labs. The Mayo doc had already ordered his labs / tests to have done prior to the Mayo visit. He ordered the usual blood tests, a 24 hr. urine, and a skeletal series. Should he also be getting a PET scan? He only originally had a few lesions. He is high-risk (17p deletion). Besides his M-spike, his other labs are good. He feels well.

I'm not a doc, but I think my doc would say wait to see the results of the xray series before you order a PET/CT scan. While PET/CTs can reveal quite a bit, they are not to be taken lightly as they expose one to LOT of radiation and are costly....not to mention time consuming
