Hello Again,
Hoping someone can answer this question. When I had a serum immunofixation done 11/06 there was abnormal marks on the labs. The hematologist never mentioned anything, he is retired now. Does this have any meaning? Could this be a transit thing....Would the abnormal finding be temporary? I just got a copy of the labs this week. I am IgG lambda mgus.

Your current results are really all that matter.

Re: Serum Immunofixation Question
My wife's IgG elevated from 4.3 to 5.2 but her M-Spike stayed at 3.1 between two tests two weeks apart. Is this a reason to be concerned? I read that the amount of IgG includes both the so-called normal IgG and the mono ones and only M-Spike is the true measure of the disease that we should be monitoring on. Also does the IgG number include the M-Spike number? Many thanks!

Re: Serum Immunofixation Question
In your wife's case, the total serum IgG includes normal IgG (made by non-cancerous plasma cells) and monoclonal IgG (The M spike made by cancerous plasma cells). The M spike measure is the most important thing to look at here. However, the M-spike measurement and the total IgG can be subject to significant lab variability. As such, I would keep a close watch on things to ensure that the disease is not progressing.
Take care!
