Hi,
My mom is debating about whether to start a clinical trial testing selinexor, Kyprolis (carfilzomib), and dexamethasone. The side effects are supposed to be horrible and she doesn't want to do it. Her doctor told her that if she doesn't do it now, it may not be available later.
There is another approved option for her called Opdivo (nivolumab).
Is anyone familiar with either of these?

There are many forum participants who would like to give you some feedback, but as Multibilly states, due to the complexities of the condition, you need to give a bit more information. Here are some specific questions:
1. Is your Mom newly diagnosed? Has she had a number of relapses? Is she refractory to anything? How is her overall health, is she frail or no? Does she have any adverse risk factors? Does she have an M-spike and/or light chains right now, and how high??
Very generally, the clinical trial looks like a lot for newly diagnosed, but may be appropriate for a relapsed setting. Secondly, Opdivo is very, very new to multiple myeloma, but I think has been used in other blood cancers. Opdivo is more experimental right now, and I do not think has been yet to be established as having the activity of Kyprolis, or to a lesser degree selinexor.
