SCT Prep - Neuprogen Shots?
My husband just had his port placed today. He is scheduled to start his neuprogen shots on Sunday. Are there any side effects or issues we should be aware of besides bone pain? Nausea? If there was bone pain, did it start right away for you or after a couple of shots? Any experience with Mozibil (they are planning this as a back up later next week)?

Re: SCT Prep - Neuprogen Shots?
My hubby (44 years old) had his ASCT 30 days ago. Neupogen gave him some muscle/joint pain but nothing major his activity level was completely normal. The only thing that was rough was that it took 3 days to get 6 million stem cells with just Neupogen shots then collected 7.1 million in 1 day after Mozobil shot!!!

Re: SCT Prep - Neuprogen Shots?
My husband had his SCT two weeks ago. The bone pain from the neuprogen caught him off guard! It was excruciating and had him screaming in pain. Doc said that was good sign that he was producing lots of stem cells. He went on to collecting enough for 4 transplants I one afternoon. But the pain was definitely a surprise for him. He was behaving like he was in labour pain
The pain only started on about day 7.
Good luck

Hi LadyLib,
Best of luck to your husband.
You may find these previous discussions here in the forum useful:

There have been a number of postings suggesting that, if bone pain occurs during the mobilization, it's a good sign, and it's also something that Claritin can help if it gets bad.
Best of luck to your husband.

I was very uncomfortable with the bone pain when I took mine. I took prescription pain pills twice in the evening so that I could rest. It hit me in the pelvis, thighs and breastbone and it was not unbearable, but very uncomfortable.
I would just make sure he his something to take if needed.

I had bone pain the last 2 days before harvesting. It felt like I had the flu. I took Tylenol for the pain and it helped. Knowing that it would be over in 2 days also helped. No symptoms at all from the shots prior to the last 2 days.
Good luck with the process,

Well family, we are done. He had Neuprogen shots for 4 days and they collected on Day 3 and Day 4. enough for 2 transplants. My hubby is exhausted, but pleased that he is done. Now, the SCT which will occur in a week.

LadyLib --
Glad that you'll have Xmas before your husband's SCT.
I hope you've read all the posts about experience with the transplant, particularly the second round of chemo. Some posters (like me) were pretty sick but others weren't. If you haven't read them, please wait until after the holiday. Merry Xmas!
