SCT and Medicaid
My husband is getting ready to start his 4th round of treatment and then is supposed to have his stem cell transplant. The facility he will have it at is 70 miles from our house. We were told when we had a consultation for the transplant that he would need to be no more than 20 minutes from the facility for 30-40 days and have a caregiver with him at all times. We have four children at home and have tried everything we can to get it worked out for people to care for them so that i can be with him during and after transplant. However, it hasn't worked out and we aren't sure what to do. Does anyone know if medicaid will pay for a home health care worker to stay with him since we live so far away and have children I need to care for? His medicaid hasn't been approved yet, so i am not able to ask them yet. If you have heard of anything like this and could answer me, i would really appreciate it!

Re: SCT and Medicaid
The other you might do is to ask the doctor if inpatient treatment would be possible.
Good luck with the upcoming transplant!

Re: SCT and Medicaid
Hi my name is Cheri. I too had to wait until my medicaid came through for my SCT. Medicaid will cover your husbands transplant, meds, doctor visits less $3.00 per visit or prescription, however thr will not cover any service for the care of your children during the SCT. My social worker at Duke helped me to get into an apartment 2 bedroom for about a month just befor my SCT. You could then take your children with you and be all together during this time. Your medicaid should have come through by now maybe you should call your husbands social worker at the hospital he will be having his SCT. That is what they are there for....to help you. They sure did me. Give them a call and see what they can do to help you. Good luck.
