Re: Scared
After ten days of severe lower back pain shooting down both legs when trying to move and none of the painkillers I took were able to reduce the intensty of pain, I've now had two days without any pain at all! Unbelievable. I can walk without problem, I can sleep through the whole night. What really helped was dexamethasone. 90 minutes after my first two pills all the pain vanished right away. I combine the dex with 2 pills 500 mg paracetamol every sixth hour and 15 mg oxycontin morning and evening at 8 o'clock. Tuesday: bone marrow biopsy. Wednesday: spinal surgery. Feels good to really start the treatment. Still waiting for the result regarding the M-Spike. In Sweden It's past midnight (02.15) when I write this comment. I guess the dex keeps me awake
But that's a cheap price to pay! Good night from Mattias

Re: Scared
Hello friends! I've had my stabilising vertebral surgery performed two days ago. The epidural morphine pump is disconnected and I'm out of bed! Of course I'm tired but not in pain. Very stiff back though. The orthopedic surgeons are happy with the outcome and so am I. Time for physiotherapy! Mattias

Re: Scared
Congrats Mattias, I was diagnosed earlier this year due partly for a search as to why my pain from arthritis was out of control. I'm 57 and have two young children too, 7 and 9 adopted from China 6 and 8 years ago. I'm scared too.
it was the low point of my diagnosis when I sat them down and told them Daddy has cancer.
Early Vel-Dex treatment has taken away my bone pain masquarading as arthritis. I can fully appreciate your position. It is such a blessing to wake up and say "no pain" in a sentence after the terrible lower body pain you must have endured. I have two artificial hips and lesions in one hip and severe pain has been a constant companion for well over a decade.
Hopefuly your skeletal problems will improve once again with treatment of the multiple myeloma. My treatment has been quite effective and my tolerance is high and so are my doses. My lower back is in trouble, broken once already, and I've been advised to expect surgery sometime in my recovery. My heart jumped to hear of your success. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Scared
Hello Canuck Bob! Thanks for your reply. My two sons and my wife visited me yesterday at the hospital. It really gave me strength and will to fight this condition with all that I've got. I can now walk without crutches and I work hard with my physiotherapy trying to "unstiffen" my back. I will probably have to stay at the hospital a few days more before I can go home. My mental status is fine and it grows even better to hear from friends all over the world, like you Canuck Bob, experiencing similar daily problems with myeloma as myself, you're never alone!. Of course we're going to be around our children when they grow up! I don't plan for anything else and the options and impacts of treatment still seems to get better and better thanks to all the scientists and medical doctors. By the way: My hospital lacks ESPN so unfortunately I haven't been able to watch the first two final matches in the Stanley Cup. Must recover fast so I can get home and see Vancouver Canucks beat the Boston Bruins. All the best from Mattias in Sweden

You got me thinking hockey Stanley Cup playoffs is a bit like Myeloma. Just when you think the fight is over one side roars back!
The Sedins sure do Sweden proud in the hockey world!
