Revlimid & Itching

by lmorden on Thu Aug 02, 2012 4:15 am

When I take my Revlimid I found that first week or so I would itch like crazy, especially my head. Absolutely drove me crazy. My oncologist gave me creams, benadryl, lotions, prescriptions, etc. Nothing really worked. Until now. My friend's daughter recently set up a medical practice and she works a lot with herbs, alternative type drugs, and Chinese medicine. I was telling her about my problem and she gave me Quercetin + Nettles. It's from Designs for Health and they have a website. It's a capsule. 600 mg of Quercetin and 600 mg of Nettles. 1 to 2 days before I start my Revlimid I take 1 tablet with my breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then I continue for 1 week or maybe a little longer. For me the itching seemed to only last about 1 week. The first time I did it I was absolutely amazed. The itching was practically gone. A little in my "fatty" areas, but very tolerable. By the way I did clear it with my oncologist and he was fine with it.

I really hope this will help someone like it did me. I just wish I would have found it 3 years ago!!!

Hope I posted this correctly.

I had the same scalp itch initially and a small rash on my torso. I took Claritin tabs and they worked like magic.

I seem to get the same itchiness on my scalp, as well. Thought it might have been Dex related from my initial treatments, but now that I am on maintenance without it I suppose it actually is the Revlimid. Only slightly annoying at times, but always manageable.

Interesting about the Quercetin and Nettles. Word of caution to anyone on Velcade though - Quercetin will inactivate Velcade when co-administered.

God bless, everyone. We're all in this journey together.

I will have to try the quercetin and nettles. I had a Dr here at Ft. Stewart, Georgia, were we retired, proscribe a lotion for me called Men-Phor (Sarna). It is steroid free and it cools the itch. It does not burn, and has a very faint smell. But I was able to use it on my scalp just below my hair line where it was really red and itchy. It works so good. It is a pump bottle with 7.5 fl.oz and since it has no steroids, it will not conflict with any medication. My Oncologist was fine with it. I will go to the health food store here and get that. Does anyone have a remedy for the sore mouth. It seems the longer I go on the Revlimid, I get what feels like the worse heartburn. Even water burns to swallow. Milk has no flavor and burns to drink. It is as if my mouth, throat and stomach are raw. I figure if I have the rash on the outside, what does the inside look like? I have used the "magic mouthwash" (milk of magnesium and numbing agent usually Novocaine). But I am tired of having a numb mouth. It makes me feel nauseous and to have to use that every day for 21 days. There has got to be something better.

Hi I have not been on mtc treatment but thought I might add my 2 cents worth here -
I recently came agross a product that I found for some conditions was nothing short of a miracle for pain relief- Its called Dr. Fred Summit Sports Rub -I tried it for leg cramps & it was quite effective -it does not actually treat the under lying problem but effectively stops the cramping for several hours (got some sleep) I took a bottle to a friend & while we were discussing it a Lady Pharmisist ask to see the bottle - she said the main ingredient thats giving you the relief is the CAPSICUM ( the same stuff thats in chilli pepers) and how its doing that is by causing the nerve cells to fire till they run out of the ability to do so -thus no more pain ( temp) I've encouraged several friends to try it & they are quite pleased with the results - I'm not sure but it seems to me that the possibly exists that it might be effective for short term itching relief? -
The Active Ingredients are: Isopropyl Alchol - Metnyl Sancylate -Magnesium Sulfate - CAPSIUM .
This Rub is not Expensive ! Web site below :
